Hiking and walking in Slovenia is a all year round hobby. But it is considered that the best time of the year is late August and September as the weather conditions are at their best. October is a very beautiful time of the year as the trees change to their stunning autum colours.

There are now several themed and organised pathways. the Kobarid historial walk; The Cultural and Historical trail of Most na Soci, The Walk of Peace, The Kosmac's educational path along the Idrica river and several others. All of which you can get informative and interesting leaflets and guides from the local tourist offices.

For ideas and help deciding where to go on a route or trail here is a suggestion of some of the popular routes and trails in Slovenia.

The Alpe Adria Trail A hiking trail of three countries: Austria, Slovenia and Italy.
This long distance hiking trail Alpe Adria Trail leads from the foot of the highest mountain in Austria, the Grossglockner, through the most beautiful mountain and lake regions in Carinthia, and, without any major detours, leads close to the point where the three countries of Austria, Italy and Slovenia intersect at the Dreiländereck, and then on through Slovenia in Soča Valley towards Trieste and the Adriatic.

Our house is perfectly located to start many walks. From the house it is a easy 10 minute stroll to the river. If you drive up the road past the house you arrive at the base of Mount Krn 2244m in the Triglav National Park. Its is, depending on ability a 3 1/2 hour walk to the summit where the breathtaking 360 degree views of Slovenia and the Italian coastline are well worth the hard work. There are many smaller summits to conquer that offer equally beautiful scenery, Mrzli Vrh, Krasi Vrh, Stol, the Kolovrat ridge to name just a few.
